Anyone who has had a garbage disposal before will know there are two types: continuous and batch feed. Both options have their pluses, but batch feed disposals are probably better for those of you that are safety conscious.
The main safety feature with a batch feed model is the fact that you won’t get power the minute you switch it on; you first need to fill the chamber with your waste before it will set about grinding it for you. Plus, most brands require a cover before the power will come on.
Sure, it will take a little longer to grind all the waste you have, but you’re less likely to suffer a broken motor because a spoon has found its way down the sink. And, of course, it also means you’re less likely to lose a finger or two.
