Safety First, Garbage Disposal Second
This may seem like an odd title, but I’ve had my fair share of customers who have young children in the home. Plus I’ve had plenty of customers who are worried about installing a garbage disposer because they think they’ll lose their fingers!
This is why I decided to write a section on batch feed waste disposers, and I happen to think the Waste King L-8000TC is one of the best models you can choose. I’m no expert when it comes to the technical side of how this type of kitchen appliance works, however I am well aware of what certain people are looking for.
So, what is it that’s so good about this model?
Take a look below.
This had to be top of the list when writing this review. After all, I’ve made it the focal point! When you use a batch feed garbage disposer instead of a continuous feed, there is less chance you will end up having to take someone to the hospital emergency department. The reason for this is you have to fill the chamber and place a stopper over the top before it will power on.
The other great thing about this is the fact that you limit the possibility of causing damage to the internal parts because you’ve dropped a spoon or other utensil down the disposer (which happens a lot), I know from experience!
With a 1 horsepower motor which runs at a speed of 2800rpm you won’t have to worry about how effectively this unit will dispose of your waste. Since it’s a batch feed, some of you might be concerned that it will take you longer to get rid of all those peels etc when you’re cooking. That’s why Waste King has made this one of the most powerful units of its type on the market.
Types of Waste
I’ve often heard the question “will it get rid of corn husks”? And, whilst I wouldn’t recommend you do this all in one go when you have several left overs from your latest BBQ, this unit will grind down the odd one here and there. Aside from that, it will adequately deal with most types of organic waste such as potato peels and citrus rind. You can even get away with a few small meat bones.
Not only will you be doing the planet a favor by sending your organic waste through your sewage system (or properly sized septic tank) for recycling, you will also save on energy because this garbage disposer will only use power when you need it.
Waste King is famous for the warranties they offer on their garbage disposers, and there is a good reason for this. Although you’re never likely to see the internal components, they have been made of materials that are resistant to rust. To back this up, Waste King offers a massive 10 year in-home warranty on this particular model. This means that should anything go wrong, a professional will pay you a visit and replace it with a new one. There are few, if any other manufacturers that are so confident you won’t have an issue, they will put an extensive warranty like this in place.
Last of All
It’s quiet! Some of the latest technology has been used to make sure the parts that can cause noise are properly insulated so you won’t be reaching for your ear-plugs when you switch it on! You can also attach this model to your dishwasher and it’s pretty compact (which saves space under your sink).
If you’re still undecided, why not take a look at what others have had to say on Amazon? If you do decide this garbage disposer is the answer to your prayers, there are some great deals to be found on the price as well.
